Parent AND Professional Partnership: A Work in Progress The Western New York Region Family Support Coalition was formed in 1995 by parents and mental health professionals dedicated to increasing support, and services for families who have children with social, emotional, behavioral, or mental health disabilities. "The Coalition" is comprised of representatives from Family Support Programs, Compeer Programs, CCSI Programs, HCBS Programs, School Support and PBIS Project Sites, CR, RTF, and FBT Programs, SPOA Coordinators, and Common Sense Parenting Instructors, as well as the 19 County Mental Health Directors. "The Coalition," meets monthly in Livingston County for state and regional information sharing; networking and support. "The Coalition" also provides training and education for parents, Parent Advocates and interested community partners; sponsoring conferences, encouraging parent/professional partnerships, supporting collaborations, and works closely with New York State Office of Mental Health, Families Together in NYS, Inc, and The Children's Mental Health Coalition of Western New York Inc,. Respite services are open to all children who are seriously emotionally disabled, developmentally delayed, or who have behavioral issues, or a parent with a mental illness. Respite is community- based using a companion model. (An adult trained with specific interventions to enhance the child(ren) socialization and skill building) Family Support also provides information and referral, advocacy, and community education and training, and Parent support groups. Once the site comes up, the user must create a user profile the first time and this will be user profile from then on. To do so put in a user name containing the prefix nymht (nymht must always be prefix) and then adding onto it up to 10 more letters or numbers. A password must also be added. Then click remember me. This will remain your identification to log in each time you use the site. Once log in is complete the menu on the left side will guide navigation through the training. The entire training takes about 11/2-2 hours to complete. However users can log out and go back to the site to complete training. The training and test vignettes can also be saved once the user creates a profile as listed above. In addition the site has added a support link. If a user encounters difficulty in navigating the site, the user can send an e-mail to the support link for assistance. A list of trainers in the CANS who have completed the CANS Train the Trainer will be up and available on the site.
